I've noticed this as well. It's really interesting seeing some of the other tools that have developed from analog foundations embracing the flexibility of their new digital form and fucking with the established workflow paradigm. AVID was the standard video editor for years, and it essentially just recreates the process of editing with film on a Steenbeck or similar. Over the last 2 or so years, Final Cut has really dug into it's market share by providing something a lot more akin to using Word. Completely new workflow, completely flexible and not based around a strict "procedure". I can think of examples in audio and still editing as well, it'll be fascinating to see how we can really shake it up when we free ourselves from the constraints of "reality".

Have you ever played Portal? The future will be just like that. Throwing out rules and screwing with your mind. Just with more cake.
